Thankful 1st Graders

We made a salad and gave thanks! It was wonderful! Thank you to all of you who contributed to our classroom fruit salad by providing fruit, marshmallows, spoons, and bowls. The feast was a collaborative effort - just as that first Thanksgiving feast shared by the Pilgrims and the Native Americans.
Look!!! We made salad! All together! Each 1st grader helped put in the ingredients in one way or another (without TOO much of a mess!)

Feast Time! Our little Pilgrims and Native American loved the salad (some had THIRDS!) and sharing things they were thankful for. They were sweet, thoughtful, and generous with their words.

The fresh air and feasting made for restless, silly Pilgrims and Native Americans!

Congrats! Your kids are awesome!

I just wanted to let you in on a little bit of 1st Grade Awesomeness.

Last Thursday and Friday I was gone from school at a 2-day training. During that time your children were taught by one of the best subs in the district. (Ask your kiddo about her. She's fantastic.) Anyway, she left a note saying that the students were spectacular in my absence! Hoorah! Give them a pat on the back and a squeeze for being respectful learners in the face of change! I couldn't be prouder.

Look! Up in the air! It's a bird. It's a plane. It's a 1st grade PARACHUTE!!!

We are currently studying AIR and WEATHER in science.

To begin our exploration of air we made individual parachutes with napkins, string, and paperclips. We then took them outside, let them go, and made observations about how, where, and why they moved on the air.

Below are some pictures of Scientific Minds At Work:
